Holos and Fernish Upgrade Residential Spaces and Combat Global Warming

At Holos Communities, our work focuses on creating opportunities for our residents to lead fuller lives and fostering a feeling of home and community. We are also committed to combatting global warming through sustainable building practices and mitigating the impacts of extreme weather for our residents. We are excited to announce a new partnership with Fernish, a furniture rental company dedicated to making people feel at home and reducing the amount of furniture waste that ends up in landfills.

This past winter, we teamed up with Fernish to refurbish community living spaces at two of our properties: NoHo Senior Villas and 28th St Apartments. The community spaces are a core feature of our properties and, for many of our tenants, these spaces are where they congregate with each other, access resources like computer labs, and share food and activities.

Opening its doors in 2012, NoHo Senior Villas provides 48 units of fully ADA-compliant units for seniors who have experienced homelessness. NoHo’s community room offers tenants a place to cook and eat, watch movies and read with a courtyard right outside. 28th St Apartments also opened in 2012 and incorporates a historic YMCA building designed by renowned African American architect Paul Revere Williams as the base for 48 units of housing and offers supportive social services for tenants and floor space for neighborhood services.

As a result of this pilot project, 28th St Apartments and NoHo Senior Villas received couches, accent chairs and coffee tables from Fernish to freshen up the community rooms and make them cozier and more welcoming for tenants. The furniture was delivered on December 20th, making the upgrades to the community rooms available before the holidays.

Thanks to Fernish and it’s users for making this happen! Holos Communities – and our tenants – are excited for this partnership and for what’s to come in 2023 as we continue to find opportunities to collaborate and connect with Fernish
